Let's Talk Computers

Wed Jul 22, 2009, 7:03 PM
Laptops to be exact. I want to get myself one but I'm not too computer swavy when it comes to the hardware and all the internal stuff. I know the basics, RAM, HD Space, operatings systems and whatnot. I found one at Bestbuy.com for $700 and another at Overstock for $500, both HP. But I want to know: what's the best brand to buy from?

Apple and Dell are outta the question so there's no point in bringing them up. I was never a Mac person and I have a personal hatred for Dell and their cheap shit. Might as well throw Sony in there becuse they're just too expensive! @_@

Your opinions and such are all I ask for! =D

And yes, I'm aware that I haven't been uploading much here!

Sony = Crap anyways, overpriced, shitty and tend to blow up or fall apart the day after your warranty

Now then, Generally, my experience has been with HP to go DIRECT to HP, the ones at Bestbuy seem to be loaded down with a lot of shit software, whereas direct from HP [Custom builds] come clean

ie a friend of mine bought a HP laptop from Best Buy and it was a piece of shit that didn't run right, loaded down with crapware, and didnt come with a crapware-free install disk and he got talked into buying the Geek Squad waste of money...

My mom on the other hand bought a very respectable desktop direct from HP and its clean as a whistle...

HP Direct also does some excellent deals...

My only complaint with HP is that their laptop finishes are a bit..cheap..feeling

I also dont like overstock.com..Just don't...The cheap can end up expensive is an excellent saying

Heres a recommendation from me from Newegg.com

Very well equipped computer, $700 and at a place i respect and do a lot of business with, MSI makes good laptops..and well..look at the reviews :) It even has a GeForce 9600 GT graphics card, thats pretty good actually...

[link]

$750, but the highest rated laptop they sell in the price range...

I'm not a fan of "Intel Integrated Graphics" period, even if you don't game a lot of software is going to be GPU-enabled, Photoshop CS4 is for instance with at least a GeForce 8-series graphics card...Also Vista likes a fast GPU and a lot of ram :)

The first question is what are you gonna use it for? How powerfull du you want it to be? And price range.

Yeah Vista inhales the ram on my desktop, it's an HP from Bestbuy XD, and when I had unreal editor open, it chugged. Unreal's a ram eater too, so they do battle and my comp cries. XD

If you are useing programs like Photoshop and Flash, look for a computer with a "intel core2duo" or "amd ??? x2" processor/cpu.

I will reccomend a "AMD Turion/Athlon X2" since they are cheaper and more powerfull than "Intel" processors.

And for graphic cards, look for a "GeForce 8600 to 8800, GeForce 9600 to 9800, Radeon HD3200 to HD42xx.

Then again i will reccomend a ATI Radeon 3200 or higher graphic card.

HP has the most rock-solid computers for a low price, but Acer is good too.

I hope this can help you to find your "dream" laptop X3

Alright, I would get an Alienware computer but aside from being $2000 it weighs as much as my cat @_@

lol XD

Hahaha XD

If you want the most powerfull laptop in the world, get a Malibal Nine series XD [link] Only $7000 if you configure it to the best parts available XP

But in your $700 limit, a HP Pavilion DV7-1245DX [link] could maybe be a good choice. It will not do so well with 3D design (Maya, 3Ds Max) since it has a ATI Mobility Radeon HD3200, class 3 GPU. (or in english, a middle class graphic card)

But if you want to use more money on a laptop, we'll talk gaming-class laptops =P

I want a game laptop but they're just too expensive @_____@

Yeah. But if you ever want to break the $1000 limit, go for a ASUS G51-VX [link]

Or go even further and get a G7-series XD [link]

Ok, back to reality...

For $700 you don't get much of a computer. I bought a ASUS G2S [link] for $2400 for 2 years ago. If you want to put $1300 in a laptop, then you can get a reasonable good gaming laptop.

If you want to use a laptop for gaming, don't buy a weak one as a "in between" laptop. Buy a powerfull one first.
